Inspiring the next generation of ocean leaders


MOCMI’S internship program is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the marine sciences.

MOC Marine Institute’s internship program offers hands-on, interactive learning experiences with real-world projects. Working with an assigned mentor, each intern identifies a project and deliverables they will complete during their internship. Students will develop skills for a career in fields related to marine science and ocean conservation.

  • Internships are for one semester and require a minimum weekly commitment of at least 20 hours.
  • During their internship, each student will be assigned a mentor while they undertake a personal project. 
  • Interns participate in community engagement initiatives, daily operations, and field work.
  • Internships are unpaid positions and housing is not provided.

Application Deadlines:

Summer 2022: March 31, 2022

  • Applicant must be 17 years of age, or a high school senior in the fall 2022
  • Applicant should be entering their senior year of high school, enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university, be enrolled in a graduate program, or be a recent graduate from a college or university
  • Must be a student during the term immediately preceding the internship. (Not to exceed  one year education gap)
  • Preference will be given to students from Maui County
