Volunteer Benefits

Volunteer Requirements

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be a Maui resident (live on Maui for at least 200 days per year)
  • Live on Maui for at least one year before volunteering
  • Work a minimum of one three-hour (on-site) shift per week

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Sea Turtle Husbandry & Rehabilitation
The volunteer provides care and cleaning to the environment the sea turtle nursery. This includes but is not limited to recording food and fecal count, water quality testing, cleaning saltwater holding tanks, food prep and assisting with sea turtle treatments as requested by MOCMI staff. 

Coral Husbandry & Conservation Volunteer
The volunteer provides care and cleaning to the land-based coral nursery. Husbandry includes cleaning saltwater aquaria, water quality testing, animal health assessments, feeding, and maintenance. There may also be opportunities to participate in research projects, fragging, transplanting corals to and from the ocean, and educational programs with school groups and community outreach events.
