Tapani Vuori is Maui Ocean Center’s General Manager and a visionary for the future of our oceans. Tapani grew up in Finland and moved to the U.S. to attend college, graduating from UCLA with a B.A. in political science in 1987. He began working, gaining experience in an eclectic mix of industries — from luxury furniture sales to Japanese animation. When life led him to Maui Ocean Center, and the opportunity arose to take on the general manager position, he accepted under one condition — building an on-property 501(c)(3). Through his efforts and vision, Tapani became one of the founding members and Board President of MOC Marine Institute (MOCMI), which serves to inspire lifelong environmental stewardship and ensure the survival of coral reefs and sea turtles in Hawaiʻi.
